Common questions
Does it actually cut grease as well as Dawn?
Yes. The plant-derived surfactants in No.81 are formulated to break down cooking oils, animal fats, and baked-on residue on contact. This isn't a gentle "eco soap" that needs you to scrub twice -- it's a commercial-grade formula developed in the same Montreal lab that makes industrial degreasers. The difference is what's NOT in it: no petroleum solvents, no SLS, no synthetic fragrance stripping moisture from your skin.
Will it dry out my hands if I'm washing dishes all day?
It's significantly gentler than conventional dish soaps. Most commercial dish liquids use SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) and petroleum-derived surfactants that strip natural oils from skin -- that's what causes cracking and dermatitis in kitchen staff. No.81 uses plant-derived surfactants that cut grease effectively without the same skin-stripping action. For all-day commercial use, gloves are still recommended as best practice, but your hands won't be wrecked if you skip them.
Does it leave a film or taste on glasses and mugs?
No. The formula is engineered to rinse completely clean -- no soapy residue, no film, no off-taste. This matters especially for glassware, wine glasses, and coffee mugs where residue affects the drinking experience. Rinse under running water (hot or cold) and the surface comes out spotless. If you're seeing film, reduce the amount of concentrate -- a little goes far.
How much do I use per sink?
10-15 mL per 2 L of water. That's roughly one tablespoon per sink basin. Start with 10 mL for regular loads; use 15 mL for heavily greased pots and pans. The 4 L jug gives you approximately 320 sinks at the midpoint dilution (12.5 mL). For a restaurant doing 20 sinks a day, that's about 16 days per jug. For a household, it's months.
Is it safe for septic systems?
Yes. The formula is fully biodegradable with no phosphates, no chlorine, and no petroleum solvents -- all of which are the ingredients in conventional dish soaps that damage septic bacteria and contaminate groundwater. No.81 breaks down naturally in both municipal wastewater and private septic systems. If you're on a septic system, this is one of the few dish soaps you can use without worrying about killing the bacteria your system needs to function.
